The Breville 5-Quart Stand Mixer is made with the professional baker in mind. It has plenty of room in the bowl to mix double batch recipes and 550watts of power to mix even the heaviest doughs. The quiet, smooth sounding motor has Motor Protection Sensors that detect heavy mixtures and adjust to maintain the correct speed. A 12 Speed Electronic control makes it easy to see whether you are beating, aerating, or whipping ingredients. The Breville mixer also has an electronic 10 minute timer, so when a recipe tells you to cream the butter for 3 minutes…you can set it and forget it. This allows you to get the other components ready for the batter instead of watching the clock. This mixer is designed to be moved off the counter top. It has a grip on each side of the stand to make grabbing hold and moving it much easier, and it also features a storage compartment for the cord.

What comes with it…
The Breville stand mixer comes with FOUR attachments. There are two paddle attachments. One is uniquely designed with a rubber edge so you never have to scrape the bowl when mixing cake batter. The other paddle you can use for mashed potatoes or meatloaf. There is a wire whisk for aerating that you will use for whipping cream or meringue. The dough hook is for breads and pizza dough. It also comes with a rubber spatula to help you clean the attachments when you are through mixing.
Features…
- Planetary Mixing Action (for thorough mixing)
- Load Sensing Technology with Motor Protection(to protect the motor from over-heating)
- 12 Speed Electronic Control (tells you exactly what speed you are at and gives more speed variation)
- 10 Minute timer with Auto-Off (set it and forget it)
- Lift Assist Mixer Head (for easy lifting)
Disadvantages…
The disadvantages depend on what you are looking for in a mixer. The Breville stand mixer does not have the same versatility as the Kitchenaid mixer. It mixes very well, but there are no pasta or ice cream attachments. The only attachments for it are the four that come with it. Which is fine if mixing is all you want to do. It only comes in the chrome finish unlike the Kitchenaid mixers which come in a variety of colors. But, chrome will blend in with most any decor.
Advantages…
Some of the nicer features include; the release button which gives you easier access to the bowl when adding ingredients and there is also a handle on the head that makes it easier to lift.
The motor runs much quieter and smoother than most other mixers, and there is no noticeable vibration due to it’s stable design and evenly distributed weight.
The scraper beater is a really nice feature, the rubber edges are able to scrape the sides of the bowl so you don’t have to. With my Kitchenaid mixer I need to stop the mixer to scrape down the bowl frequently.
The timer is another nice feature! You can set it for up to 10 minutes and it automatically shuts off the mixer when the time is up. So, if you get called to the door in the middle of making whipped cream you won’t come back and find butter from over beating.
It comes with a splash and pour guard.
Being able to store the cord inside the mixer is also a nice feature, as well as the LED speed indicator.

Sally says;
I haven’t used a stand mixer since I was a little girl and licked the twin beaters on my mother’s. Now, at age 62, I have a new house with a new kitchen and a new passion: cooking. In fact, I am cooking and baking my way through Alice Waters’ “The Art of Simple Food.” I finally decided to buy a stand mixer and chose this Breville on the strength of reviewers, Youtube videos, and descriptions on the internet. Oh yes! And price. From Amazon, I paid no shipping and no sales tax. So far, I am in love with this mixer. It is beautiful, fits nicely under my cabinetry, and is easy to pick up and move. Bonus: the cord retracts into the body of the mixer. The Breville comes with all the accessories I wanted, including a scraper beater and a splash guard which makes it easy to add ingredients as you mix. It is well powered for all my tasks and quieter than I expected. I really appreciated the LED speed indicator and the little clock which lets me know exactly how long, for example, a bread dough has been kneading. It’s very easy to set up, and even easier to clean up.
